The Rector of IE University, Santiago Íñiguez de Onzoño, took advantage of the visit to the Segovia campus of the Education Minister for the Castilla y León regional authorities, Juan José Mateos, to announce the new degrees that the different IE schools will be offering for the 2010-2011 academic year.
The University is launching a total of 5 new programs, all designed to meet the current needs of the labor market using a practical approach to achieve the innovative and creative spirit for which IE is known.
During his visit to the Santa Cruz de Real campus, Juan José Mateos had a work meeting with the IE University management team. The minister got to know more about the innovative international projects, all with a markedly business vocation and a humanistic spirit, run by the University’s schools. He followed up this up with a tour of the campus to see recent improvements, including the architecture classrooms with latest generation technology, study and meeting rooms, or the television and radio studios (Medialab).
During the press conference the minister underscored the fact that IE University offered highly innovative programs, and that it had understood the aims of the European Higher Education Area perfectly, as evidenced by its bilingual degree programs. He also stressed that IE’s commitment to internationalization brings important benefits to the region, and is in line with the regional authorities’ education policy.
The rector explained that “IE University’s new master degree programs will be run in alliance with prestigious international professional and academic institutions that are leaders in their fields.” He underlined the fact that the programs will comprise a combination of presential and online formats to enable internships in leading business organizations as part of their education.
In the fall of this year, IE School of Communication will launch two further master degrees. The Master in Corporate Communication, an official degree taught in English, will prepare students to meet the challenges facing the corporate communication sector in the 21st century, led by a faculty comprised of international professors and professionals from the sector. Students will learn to lead communication campaigns and draw up communication policies, as well as gaining a grounding in key aspects like lobbying or virtual community management. The School of Communication also offers the Master in Economics and Business Journalism, aimed at students interested in an international career in corporate journalism, and designed to shape journalist and editors, together with more specialist profiles, such as finance communication consultants.
IE School of Biology is set to launch its Master in Global Environmental Change, which will mold professionals equipped to handle global climate change, one of the greatest challenges facing the world in the 21st century. Students will learn how to respond to challenges like urbanization and deforestation, or the changes in temperature and rainfall that are affecting biodiversity and agriculture, natural disasters, infectious diseases and changes in climate conditions. The master is designed to examine these changes using latest generation information technologies, as well as teaching students to create policies, take decisions in public and private sector organizations, and counteract the consequences of global climate change.
IE School of Psychology is to offer the Master in Organizational Leadership, which will mould future leaders capable of leveraging human capital, one of the keys to success for any organization that wants to achieve missions and goals. The program will foster skills required for change and leadership through a deep understanding of human capital, examining how people think and act in professional contexts.
IE School of Architecture will run the Master in Architectural Management and Design, set to commence in February 2011. The program is for professionals in the field of architecture who have a solid theoretical base coupled with experience, and who want to combine their specialized knowledge with a deep understanding of its application to business.
