Professor Alejandro Werner has worked as an economist for the International Monetary Fund. In Mexico, his career in the public sector includes the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance. At Banco de Mexico, he headed the Economic Research Department. At the Ministry of Finance, he was the Chief of Staff for the Minister from February to August of 2003 and Head of the Economic Planning Unit up to November of 2006. From December 2006 to August 2010 he was Deputy Minister. Since September of this year he is Professor at IE (ES). Additionally, he has been a part-time professor at ITAM and a visiting professor at the Department of Economics at Yale University. He has published several articles in academic journals on financial, monetary and fiscal issues. In 2008 he was recognized as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
