Architect Josemaría de Churtichaga is since 2008 Associate Dean at IE School of Architecture and Design and until 2011 was also Director for Undergraduate Architecture Studies.  He received his professional degree in architecture from Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid in 1992. He is also Director for the Design Thinking Launch Program at IMBA Master at IE Business School. Prior to joining IE University, he was professor of Design Studio at ETSAM Madrid from 2003 to 2008. He has lectured at prestigious academic and professional institutions in USA, UK, Germany, Norway, India, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Argentina, Mexico and Cuba. In 1995 he founded with Cayetana de la Quadra-Salcedo the architectural firm, CHURTICHAGA + QUADRA-SALCEDO architects. Since then the office has built several buildings, focussing mainly on public buildings and infrastructure obtained as the result of national and international competitions. The work of the office is focused on the intimate relation between physical and unphysical aspects, trying to understand architecture as a sensorial interface, as an atmosphere between the man and the environment. Buildings and projects have received awards and prizes and have been published in national and international publications and books. Among the distinctions are Mies van der Rohe Prize (selected), and first prizes from the following: ENOR International Young Architects Prize, Premio Comunidad de Madrid (Madrid Regional Government Prize), Bigmat Prize, INC. Prize World Coolest Office (2nd).
