IE Foundation and Philyra S.A signed an agreement earlier today to create a scholarship that will enable an IE University undergraduate student to enjoy a “Young Talented Leaders” scholarship covering the entirety of a degree program. Pilar Muro Navarro, President of Philyra S.A., and Diego del Alcázar, President of the IE Foundation, signed to pledge the commitment of both institutions to developing talent and innovation among young university students.

The “Philyra” scholarship has been awarded to Paula Oliver Llorente, who is studying IE University’s Dual Degree in Business Administration and International Relations, and who has an extraordinary academic record, coupled with personal initiative and drive, as well as an exceptional entrepreneurial mindset. The scholarship also covers enrolment fees, accommodation, academic materials, help with travel expenses, and day-to-costs of living in Spain.

Other participants in the event surrounding the signing of this collaboration agreement at IE University’s Madrid center included the Vice President of Philyra, José Ramón Rubio Laporta, and CEO, María Cordón, who underlined the special significance of the agreement due to the fact that a large part of their education was undertaken at IE, which is recognized as being one of the world’s leading centers for higher education: “Ever since Philyra was first created it has been committed to young talent, and sponsoring this scholarship means taking that commitment to another level,” said Cordon. “Furthermore, as an IE alum, I am proud to establish an alliance with such an innovative institution which is so very committed to academic excellence. Thus, we are making a joint contribution to the academic and professional development of the most promising university students.” IE was represented at the signing by academic and institutional members who included IE University President Santiago Iñiguez, the Chairman of IE University’s Board of Governors, Rafael Benjumea, the Vice President of the IE Foundation, Rafael Puyol, the Vice President of IE, Diego del Alcázar Benjumea, and the Rector of IE University, Salvador Carmona.

The Young Talented Leaders Scholarship Program, of which “Philyra” now forms part, permits high-potential students to be educated in IE, which currently boasts an ambitious financial aid program, awarding some six million euros a year with the aim that no brilliant students be prevented from studying at university by a lack of funds. The Young Talented Leaders Scholarship is supported by companies that include global solar power firm Fotowatio Renewable Ventures, and AJE, the beverage multinational.

There are currently seven undergraduate students from Uruguay, Jordan, Pakistan, India, Thailand, Indonesia and Spain who are studying at IE University thanks to this scholarship program, two of whom are also funded thanks to the generosity of students’ parents who contribute funds to IE Foundation for this purpose. At the present time over 70% of IE University’s student body is international, comprising more than 110 nationalities studying on its Segovia and Madrid centers.
