The key objective of the competition is to place a special focus on Segovia’s city walls as living matter and a rich source of memories for Segovia in the 21st century.

Registration is free of charge on the competition’s website at  www.fromlimittoliveit.com

On the occasion of the International Year of Light declared by UNESCO, Segovia’s City Council and IE University’s d-lab are running an international competition entitled From Limit To Live It to design a temporary artistic display on the northern section of the medieval walls surrounding the historic district of Segovia.

The overarching aim of the competition, which is open to everyone worldwide, is to explore the capacity of artistic expression to reveal and showcase the medieval walls that surround the city’s historic quarter.

From Limit To Live It is looking for a form of artistic display that will return the walls to their city and inhabitants through the use of light, which is synonymous with life and new beginnings. Re-constructing the wall to bring its presence to a fore, bringing the space it occupies to life, and building memories are just some of the possible challenges that such artistic expression is expected to meet, in order to offer a new understanding and significance of the wall by revealing aspects that have lain unnoticed by the human eye and hidden by the passage of time.

The judges’ panel will select the winners of three prizes (First, second and third) and a maximum of 10 honorary mentions. The winning entries, the entries that receive honorary mentions, and a selection of work by other participants will be on display at Segovia’s Royal Mint building after the competition has come to an end, and the idea that won first prize will be developed and displayed during the FAV (Annual Visual Festival) set to take place this summer.

All proposals will be published on the official website of the competition at www.fromlimittoliveit.com and on the website of Segovia’s City Council.

Anyone who wants to register to enter the competition can do so free of charge at the competition’s website at www.fromlimittoliveit.com, where the terms and conditions are also set out.
