Alejandra Torres Camprubí

Dr. Torres Camprubí is Adjunct Professor on International Climate Change Law at IE Law School since 2023. As a senior attorney specialized in public international law and international investment arbitration, she is admitted to the Madrid Bar (Ilustre Colegio de Abogados de Madrid) since 2008 and to the Paris Bar (Barreau de Paris) as an EU lawyer since 2015. Founder of Torres Iuris, her independent legal practice based in Madrid, she exclusively represents sovereign States and State-owned entities, both in inter-State cases before the International Court of Justice and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (in border disputes and cases involving violations of international humanitarian law and human rights law), and in arbitration proceedings administered by the International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes and the Permanent Court of Arbitration (in matters relating to the energy and aeronautical industries). Her areas of research include international environmental law, with a particular focus on international climate change law and policy, and the interaction of this field with the international law of the sea and the law on statehood. She acted as legal counsel in the United Nations climate change negotiations and has been a post-doctoral research fellow at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute in Oslo. She is also an active member of the ILA Committee on International Law and Sea-Level Rise since its foundation in 2012. Dr. Torres Camprubí holds a Ph.D in Law and Political Science from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2009-2014), an LL.M in Public International Law from University College London (2008-2009), and a Double Bachelor Degree in Spanish and French Law from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne (2004-2008).
