Catherine De Vries
Catherine E. De Vries is Vice Dean at the IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs, where she also serves as the head of the Political Science Area. A leading voice in the field of European politics, Catherine’s research explores key themes of our time: political and institutional change, political fragmentation, populism, corruption, international corruption, and the evolving role of the European Union in the world.
Before joining IE, she held professorships at the Bocconi University, the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and the University of Oxford, and visiting appointments at UCLA and the University of Vienna. Her scholarship has been recognized internationally, including her appointment as an Honorary Professor at Queen’s University Belfast and her selection as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2013.
Catherine serves on several international advisory and governance boards, including the WZB Berlin Social Science Center, the Hertie School, the Juan March Institute at Carlos III University, Jacques Delors Center, and the European Integration Committee of the Dutch Advisory Council on Foreign Affairs. She also advises the Bertelsmann Foundation, Social Europe, and the Lill Institute for Public Value.
