Marcos Gallego Llorente
Marcos Gallego Llorente
Marcos Gallego Llorente brings over a decade of international experience at the intersection of healthcare strategy, scientific research, innovation, and public policy. His expertise spans health system innovation, patient pathway redesign, multidisciplinary care, clinical data and healthcare AI, digital health, real–world evidence, and the implementation of new therapies and technologies across hospitals, health systems, and the life sciences.
He currently works at Vintura, a European healthcare and life sciences consultancy, and as Adjunct Professor at IE University. At Vintura, he works on international projects in patient pathway optimization, multidisciplinary care, and health system transformation, with particular experience in oncology and cardiovascular care. His work focuses on how healthcare innovation moves from scientific or technological promise into real–world implementation—becoming practical, measurable, and scalable across delivery settings.
At IE University, Marcos’s teaching has covered the future of healthcare, biotechnology, clinical data, and innovation in care delivery. He also serves as Research Lead for the Center for the Governance of Change’s Future of Healthcare program, where he has contributed to research and public discussion on AI, digital innovation, and the changing architecture of healthcare in Europe, including the report Innovation, Sustainability and the Future of Healthcare. His teaching connects biomedical progress with economics, regulation, organizational design, and adoption in practice, and he has received five IE University Teaching Excellence Awards.
Previously, Marcos worked at Cambridge Innovation Consulting and collaborated with the OECD’s Science, Technology and Innovation Directorate on the future of AI in healthcare. He has also contributed to international healthcare work across pharma, hospitals, and public systems in Europe, including multinational initiatives in oncology and cardiovascular pathway design.
Earlier in his career, Marcos completed a PhD at the University of Cambridge after studying at Imperial College London. His academic research in paleogenetics and ancient DNA included first–author work published in Science. Across his academic, advisory, and teaching work, he is driven by a consistent question: not only what healthcare innovation makes possible, but what it takes for that innovation to improve care in the real world.
