IE University has announced the appointment of Manuel Muñiz as Rector of IE University in Madrid. Muñiz, who has served as Provost of IE University and previously as Dean of the IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs, brings extensive leadership experience across academic, public and private sectors.

As Rector, Manuel Muñiz will strengthen IE University’s global presence and strategic development, reinforce academic excellence, and support the growth of the faculty. Muñiz will combine this new role with his responsibility as Chair of the Board of Trustees of IE New York College, an officially recognized US college located in New York, that welcomes students from around the world.

Diego del Alcázar Silvela, founder and President of IE, stated that this appointment "represents a significant step for our institution. Manuel Muñiz brings together academic leadership, outstanding management capacity and a deep understanding of the global environment. His work over the years building alliances and strengthening the international presence of our institution is the best guarantee for the future."

Manuel Muñiz expressed his gratitude for the appointment. "At IE University we work to promote positive change through research, education and innovation. Their forward-looking vision and global experience are essential to continue advancing our strategic institutional projects," he said.

As part of this new phase, Salvador Carmona will continue as Rector of IE University in Segovia. Juan Santaló will continue as Vice Rector for Faculty and Research, leading the institution’s academic and research strategy, and reporting to the new Rector. Vice Provosts Jaime de Aguinaga García, María Eugenia Marín, and Marta Pérez Lidón will assume the positions of Vice Rector for Strategy, Coordination, and Institutional Affairs, Vice Rector for Global Academic Alliances and Partnerships, and Vice Rector for Education and Student Experience. Additionally, Macarena Rosado, General Counsel of IE University, has been appointed Secretary General in Madrid. 

Beyond his work at IE University Manuel Muñiz served as Secretary of State (Deputy Minister) at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In academia, he also directed the Transatlantic Relations Program at Harvard University and chaired APSIA, the global network of leading schools of international affairs and public policy. Muñiz holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of Oxford and a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Manuel Muñiz is a permanent member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors and has received recognitions such as the Rockefeller and Eisenhower fellowships.
