Carolina Fernández Bustillo

Professor Carolina Fernández Bustillo is an Adjunct Professor of Commercial Law at IE Law School, where she has been teaching since 2014. In addition to her academic career, Professor Fernández Bustillo is an Independent Consultant on Competition and EU Law, advising companies on complex regulatory and competition matters. She has an extensive professional background, having worked in top law firms and multinational corporations.

She earned her Ph.D. in Law with Honors from Universidad de Navarra, receiving the Prize for Best Doctoral Thesis of the Academic Year. Her doctoral research explored competition law challenges in the digital economy, with her thesis entitled: “Self-preferencing by digital platforms as a potential abuse of a dominant position. The Google Shopping case.”. Her research focuses on the intersection of competition law and regulated markets, with a particular emphasis on digital markets. She has published academic articles and speaks regularly at conferences and professional forums.

Beyond her academic and professional commitments, she has a keen interest in international affairs and the promotion of European values.
