Elena Gutiérrez García de Cortázar
Elena is Chief Attorney at the Arbitration Court of Madrid. Elena currently acts as arbitrator in the international competitions Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and Moot Madrid. She represents the Arbitration Court of Madrid in the Work Group II for the United Nations for International Commercial Law (UNCITRAL), working in International Arbitration and in the Work Group III for UNCITRAL, a group created to resolve conflicts online produced by electronic commerce operations.
Before incorporating into the Arbitration Court of Madrid in 2008, Elena worked as Foreign Associate at the firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in New York, and for 9 years in the Public, Proceedings and Arbitration Department of the firm Uría Menéndez, where she specialized in alternative conflict resolution systems, acting as counsel on several occasions before national and international arbitration counts before the main arbitrating institutions.
Elena is also one of the editors of the magazine Spain Arbitration Review (WoltersKluwer) and actively collaborates with the Spanish Club of Arbitration (being co-founder of the CEA-40, and member of the Mediation Commission).
Elena is particularly experienced in negotiation, mediation, international litigation and international arbitration.

Elena is the author of several doctrinal articles regarding arbitration, such as “La reforma de la Ley de Arbitraje: luces y sombras” (The reform of the Arbitration Act: lights and shadows) and “Cláusulas Patológicas: Historias para no dormir” (Pathological clauses: horror stories). She regularly acts as a speaker in different forums specialized in international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution matters.
