Mikel Tapia
Mikel Tapia
Mikel Tapia is a Distinguished Visiting Professor at IE University in the Department of Finance. Previously, he was Professor of Finance at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Mikel earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of the Basque Country in February 1996.
He teaches finance at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Among the subjects he has taught, notable ones include Investment Valuation, Financial Markets, and Liquidity.
Mikel’s research interests focus on market microstructure and asset valuation. His work examines the role of market design and algorithms and their consequences for costs, valuation, liquidity, and related topics. His research has been published in journals such as the Journal of Banking and Finance, International Review of Economics & Finance, European Journal of Finance, and Investigaciones Económicas.
In his professional career, Mikel serves as Chairman of the Technical Advisory Committee of the IBEX 35® and Chairman of BME Clearing. He has also served as Vice-Rector at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and has been a Visiting Scholar at various universities, including Arizona State University (US, 1997), Tilburg University (Netherlands, 2003), and LUISS (Italy, 2016).
