Environmental DNA Lab

Environmental DNA Lab

The Environmental DNA & Microbiology Lab teaches students to use molecular tools to identify and detect phytopathogens that cannot be detected by traditional techniques. Students will put theory to practice by using PCR techniques for phytopathogens with DNA genome and RT-PCR techniques for RNA phytopathogens.

Students will also study microorganisms in accordance with technical and biosafety standards to identify the etiological agent of an infection and determine susceptibility to certain antimicrobial agents.

Make a big deal out of tiny things

Although the things you’re studying are small, you can use them to make a big impact. The Environmental DNA & Microbiology Lab gives you the chance to use cutting-edge tools to investigate microscopic organisms like bacteria, algae, fungi and more to help find solutions to mitigate environmental damage.
