About me

I’m Diego Hernandez, a student from the Spanish city of Talavera la Real, close to Badajoz. I have always been a naturally curious person who loves to ask questions to better understand how things work beneath the surface. I knew I wanted to study in more than one field and was looking for something both challenging and intellectually dynamic. This inspired me to join the Bachelor in Philosophy, Politics, Law & Economics program at IE University, which has proven a perfect match for my needs. My experiences at IE University have helped shape not only my education but also the professional I aspire to be in the future.

A journey through philosophy, politics, law and economics at IE University

Diego Hernandez’s road to the Bachelor in Philosophy, Politics, Law & Economics program at IE University underlines the value of embracing multifaceted perspectives on global issues. Driven by his natural curiosity, the Spanish-born student chose this program combining four disciplines to give him a more holistic perspective on the complex problems facing our world today.

This multidisciplinary approach has proven key to his understanding of how different factors influence global challenges. He says that considering multiple viewpoints and approaching problems from multiple angles is critical to solving real-world issues.

While the four disciplines combined in this degree may at first seem quite different, Diego says that they connect in fascinating ways. "This program captures how each discipline is in constant dialogue with one another and how understanding these interactions is key to grasping the complexity of our world." Pointing to the European Legal History class as an example, he has found it useful to learn how philosophy and socioeconomic factors throughout history continue to influence law in modern times.

Though he considers all four areas valuable, Diego’s core passion lies in economics. Boasting a keen analytical mindset, he believes economics offers the best lens through which to make sense of the world—but also recognizes it doesn’t operate in isolation. "Understanding its intersection with politics and law is crucial," he says, emphasizing that economic policies always have legal and political ramifications to be considered. This constant training to think across all disciplines has given Diego a broader perspective, enabling him to tackle a wider range of issues from a holistic point of view.

The faculty at IE University has also played a vital role in shaping his worldview. Professors with real-world experience challenge students to think critically and question assumptions while remaining approachable and encouraging the exploration of ideas. This supportive but challenging environment empowers students like Diego to draw their own conclusions and develop innovative solutions.
