Logan Pierson-Flagg - Student Story | IE University

Logan Pierson-Flagg

About me

My name is Logan Pierson-Flagg and I grew up in Vermont, US, a small state in New England. I'm currently studying the Bachelor in Philosophy, Politics, Law and Economics at the Segovia campus and am really enjoying it. I chose this program because I'm not entirely sure what I want to do after university, so I wanted to keep my options open. I have also always been interested in politics and enjoyed reading the news, and I feel this program gives me a lot of new perspectives to look at the world and what is going on.

Pursuing a passion for debating

Logan studies the Bachelor in Philosophy, Politics, Law and Economics, but his IE University experience isn’t only limited to his program. Logan also participates in the IEU Debate Club and recently attended the Model United Nations of Rey Juan Carlos University (URJCMUN) debate.

Logan discovered IEU Debate Club through their Instagram page and IE Connects. His decision to join was motivated by his drive to improve his public speaking because he’s not always been comfortable with it and wanted to take the step to develop himself. He also wanted to improve his confidence and saw this as a great step toward this goal.

Being part of IEU Debate Club was what opened up the opportunity for Logan to attend the Model United Nations at Rey Juan Carlos University. His experience was amazing and he “went in a little bit nervous, was sad for it to come to an end”. He met people from all over Europe and got to know them both during the debates and at social events. He also got to discuss relevant topics such as Border Security, using what he has learned in class to support his points. Another highlight of the experience was arguing in favor of ideas he did not necessarily support, as it helped him become more open-minded.

Throughout the experience, IE University supported him and his team; whether that be financially by funding the Airbnb where they stayed in Madrid, or through their excellent coach, Kevin, who guided them through the entire process. And this support, in addition to Logan’s hard work, paid off when Logan and his debating partner received the Best Delegation award at the URJCMUN.

To IE University students who are interested in participating in Model United Nations events, Logan encourages them to get involved. He highlights the value of attending the training sessions, as they teach you about more than just procedures and give you strategies to enhance your arguments and speak more naturally. The training sessions are also a great opportunity to discuss politics more broadly, which Logan emphasizes will help you at other Model United Nations events.
