Europe’s largest employment portal purchases the recruitment startup founded by IE University alumni

Tyba, the recruitment firm founded by three IE University alumni, was bought this week by Graduateland, Europe’s largest employment portal for students and graduates, based in Copenhagen. Graduateland announced the acquisition today on Techcrunch, a leading international blog on entrepreneurship. Tyba was created in 2011 by Eiso Kant, Jorge Schnura and Philip von Have, while they were still studying their Bachelor in Administration at IE University. The employment website quickly became a popular site with startups and technology companies in their search for talent, and a reference for university students across Europe looking for their dream job.

Companies that use the Tyba platform are able to showcase their philosophy and the kind of work environment they can offer through photos, videos and interviews. Such information permits candidates to choose the place that best meets their career needs, while companies that want the hire the best talent are able to show what they have to offer using a different method. Tyba’s founders managed to reinvent the talent selection process on an international scale.

“The possibility of being able to expand our business into the startup and technology sectors made Tyba a clear target for acquisition,” says Patrick Lund, co-founder and CEO of Graduateland. “Acquiring what Tyba has achieved in recent years has improved our potential on an exponential basis in terms of offering the best services to our clients and candidates.”

A year ago, IE University graduates created a Tyba spinoff - source{d}. The recently created firm is centered on the search for developers using open-source software projects. Source{d} was created in response to demand from startups and technology firms that were finding it difficult to find developer profiles. The new platform, created within Tyba, analyzed the code of over 16 million open source projects led by 5.5 million developers around the world. “One in every 7 developers that we send to our clients is hired,” explains Jorge Schnura, co-founder and CEO of source{d}. “This permits our clients to save time, grow more quickly, and find the best developer for their needs from anywhere in the world.”

“Graduateland is the ideal buyer for Tyba, given that it permits us to keep investing all our resources in source{d} while they continue to develop the Tyba platform,” Schnura adds. Source{d} has a team comprising 23 people of 8 nationalities in its offices based in Madrid, London and Berlin, and has received a 4 million-dollar investment from Danish and Kuwaiti venture capital funds Sunstone Capital and Impulse. The key objective of this startup is to help developers around the world to maximize their potential, starting by finding them their ideal job in which to fully develop their skills. The firm uses diverse artificial intelligence algorithms that understand the quality of the developers’ code, and a team of software engineers who manage the process, serving as an interface between candidates and some of the most cutting-edge companies in the world.
