IE celebrates its ‘Global Alumni Weekend’ in Madrid
Last weekend IE brought together more than 1,000 graduates from more than 50 countries in Madrid at the IE Global Alumni Weekend 2017, the main annual meeting of the school’s alumni.

Attendees participated in academic sessions and networking activities with graduates and members of the faculty in Madrid. Graduates returned to the classrooms where they had studied over the last year, visited new teaching facilities, got up close to technological projects like the WOW Room and areas of enterprise and innovation such as Area 31. They also visited Inside Out, the installation covering the facade of the school’s building in María de Molina 31, which showcases IE’s diversity and is part of the artistic movement initiated by JR, a leading exponent of street art and urban photography. As part of IE Global Alumni Weekend, the second edition of the EPIC (Extraordinary People Inspiring the IE Community) Awards, sponsored by Baume & Mercier, was held. The purpose of the awards is to inspire the IE community through the success stories of alumni around the world. The winners of the EPIC Awards in this edition are: 

  • Vitaliy Dubil of Ukraine, founder of Support Hospitals in Ukraine, in the Human Success category
  • Linda Kasonde from Zambi, President of the Law Association of Zambia in the category of Women Inspiring Women
  • Maximilian Haschke of Germany, Director of Sponsorship and International Strategy of Atlético Madrid, in the category of Young & Ambitious Minds
  • Cristina Bondolowski, Global VP of Sparkling Beverage at The Coca-Cola Company of Spain, in the Business Impact category

Natalie Cartwright and Jake Tyler from Canada and the UK, co-founders, CEO and COO of Finn.AI, respectively, in the category of Creators “We wanted to design an event where our graduates and their families, members of the faculty and the business community could meet to discuss issues such as the challenges of technology, leadership and social innovation,” said Julia Sánchez, director of IE Global Alumni Relations.
