The awards ceremony was hosted by Gabriela Frías, from CNN en Español.

IE University has held the Ibero-American and Asian Economic Journalism Awards 2022, which this year celebrate their ninth and seventh editions, respectively. The awards ceremony, which was attended by the winning journalists, was held in Madrid at the Palacio de Linares, headquarters of Casa de América, with the sponsorship of CAF-Development Bank of Latin America and the support of CNN en Español, Iberia and Cinco Días.

Each year, these awards recognize the best journalism with an economic focus published in Latin America and Asia.  This year, more than 150 articles were submitted and evaluated by a jury made up of executives from IE University and CAF, as well as journalists who have won prizes in previous editions. The winners received a sculpture designed for the contest by the artist Miguel Panadero.

The awards ceremony was hosted by Gabriela Frías, a journalist at CNN en Español, and was attended by Manuel Muñiz, Provost of IE University; Enrique Ojeda, Director of Casa de América; Ignacio Corlazzoli, CAF Office Director for Europe, Middle East and Asia; Victor Moneo, Director of Latam and Institutional Agreements of Iberia and José Antonio Vega, Director of Cinco Días.

“It is important to recognize and shine light on leading journalism in the fields of Economics and Business, which intersects with the academic world to help us understand the world, its complexity and to anticipate its development. The work being recognized today fulfills this very important mission.”
Manuel Muñiz, Provost of IE University

Ignacio Corlazzoli, CAF’s Manager for Europe, Asia and the Middle East, added: “to accompany the transcendental processes that Latin America is currently experiencing, we need journalism with a vocation for public service, one that aspires to the highest objectivity possible, and that looks out for the interests of the public. CAF’s commitment to quality journalism is closely linked to the mission of promoting the well-being of all, along with sustainable development.”

The impact of innovation and technology on economic growth in Latin America was the focus of this year’s Latin American Economic Journalism Awards. The award for Best Article in the Daily Press category year went this to Claudia Inga for her article Regulación laboral para los aplicativos móviles (Labor laws for mobile applications), published in El Comercio de Perú, about legal changes and their impact on new forms of work.

The jury highlighted Panama’s La Prensa daily and Mexico’s Emprendedor magazine for their work in promoting economic and entrepreneurial culture in Latin America, receiving the award for Best Daily Press Media and Best Non-Daily Press Media respectively.

In addition, as part of the 7th Asian Economic Journalism Awards, VietNamNet received the award for Best Regional Media in Asia.
