Nick van Dam, world expert in Corporate Learning and Leadership Development at McKinsey, named Chief Learning Officer of IE University

Nick van Dam has been appointed to the IE University Board of Directors and will serve as Chief Learning Officer and Chief of the IE Center for Learning Innovation. He is also joining the faculty as a Professor of Corporate Learning and Leadership Development. Van Dam will assume the role 1 February 2019.

Dr. van Dam joins IE University from McKinsey, where he is a partner, Global Chief Learning Officer and Client Advisor. At McKinsey he is responsible for learning and leadership development of McKinsey ‘s more than 29.000 professionals and partners. Nick has also served over 100 clients on Human Capital Development topics during his career.

He enjoys worldwide recognition as an advisor, researcher, author, speaker, and thought leader in the field of Corporate Learning and Leadership Development. He is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Global Executive Doctorate Program for Chief Learning Officers, is the Academic Chair and full Professor of the International Masterclass for Learning & Development Leadership at Nyenrode Business Universiteit in the Netherlands. This Executive Development Program for L&D Leaders will be offered in 2019 as a joined program between IE Business School and Nyenrode.

Nick has authored and co-authored over 25 books including: Elevating Learning & Development; Leadership at Scale; You! The Positive Force in Change; 25 Best Practices in Learning & Talent Development; Change Compass; The e-Learning Fieldbook; Next Learning Unwrapped, and Organization & Management, an International Approach, among others.

Under the patronage of the European Parliament Federal Ministry of Education & Research, van Dam received the 2013 Leonardo European Corporate Learning Award for ‘Shaping the future of Organizational Learning and Leadership Development’. He is the founder and chairman of e-Learning for Kids, a global non-profit foundation that provides free digital lessons for underserved children who are 5-12 years old. Since 2005, more than 20 million children have benefitted from these e-lessons.

As Chief of the IE Center for Learning Innovation, Van Dam will be focused on launching learning innovation projects, providing support for the initiatives carried out by IE Exponential Learning -IE’s life-long learning unit-, designing a strategic development plan for IE faculty, shaping the digital and blended learning agenda, directing and disseminating research reports on Corporate Learning and Leadership Development, building a global network of professionals in Learning and Leadership, and exploring opportunities for alliance agreements with other international institutions and corporations. All of these initiatives will be in collaboration with various IE departments and IE schools.
