Learning Experience - robotic ai lab

Robotics & ai lab

HANDS-ON LEARNING IN OUR LABORATORIES

Studying this bachelor gives you access to the new Robotics & AI Lab. This state-of-the-art facility is designed for experiential learning, providing the tools and resources needed to advance high-quality research projects and services. In this hub for exploration and discovery, students will be able to apply what they have studied in the classroom to create and develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges. These facilities are more than just classrooms — they are gateways to your future.

Student research opportunities 

In the Robotics and AI Lab, you’ll have the possibility to join our Cyphy Life Research Group and step into the role of a research assistant as an optional, merit-based extracurricular experience. You’ll conduct state-of-the-art research, learn how to write and present papers, and even have the opportunity to publish alongside prestigious scientists in leading journals and conferences. This is a chance to deepen your real-world robotics knowledge while reinforcing your practical experience in an exciting, hands-on way. To join CyPhy Life, you’ll need to complete an application process, as participation is selective to ensure a high-impact experience.

    iTrash: Incentivized Token Rewards for Automated Sorting and Handling

    Small spaces are increasingly adopting robotic systems to automate tasks like cleaning, maintenance, and resource management, driven by rapid advances in autonomous technology. This paper introduces iTrash, a smart trashcan designed to enhance recycling in small spaces. A five-day trial showed it boosted efficiency by over 30% compared to conventional bins.

    SPICE: Smart Projection Interface for Cooking Enhancement

    Tangible User Interfaces (TUIs) offer physical ways to interact with digital content, addressing the limitations of screen-based systems. While TUIs have been widely explored, few focus on everyday two-handed tasks like cooking. To bridge this gap, we present SPICE (Smart Projection Interface for Cooking Enhancement), a system that reimagines recipe interaction through projected, interactive instructions and which was presented at the IEEE SMC 2025 conference. SPICE combines tracking, agent-based software, and vision-language models to interpret the kitchen space and display relevant information directly onto the cooking surface.

    GAME: GrAspable Media Entertainment

    This study presents GAME (GrAspable Media Entertainment), a Tangible User Interface (TUI) designed to enhance gaming through physical interaction with digital content. By combining motion capture (Optitrack), projection (Optoma UHD35STx), and agent-based simulation (GAMA), GAME blurs the line between the physical and virtual gaming experience.

    Multimodal Sentiment Analysis based on Video and Audio Inputs

    This project explores the effectiveness of emotion recognition models using both audio and video inputs. Fine-tuned models like wav2vec2 and ViViT were combined using various decision strategies, including weighted averages, confidence thresholds, dynamic weighting, and rule-based logic. When accuracy varied significantly between models, alternative testing methods were applied. The promising results support continued research in this area.
