El Faro, the Lighthouse, proposes the redevelopment of the site of the former convent at La Trinidad in Malaga. It imagines a sequence of spaces that establish a feeling of belonging within the architecture, encouraging social exchange in a place where women can rebuild their self-confidence and independence.
It provides a safe house for victims of domestic violence, functioning as both a temporary and permanent refuge for women. It’s a space for healing and reconstruction, housing a market for social interaction and professional encounters with the outside.
El Faro follows the idea of communal living, based on architectural typologies which already exist in Malaga, within the former monastery. It explores how domestic scale can translate to a monumental scale, breaking the existing order of things.
