This project places R+D at the center of urban life, to create a critical attitude. It uses water as the main object of the R+D study, making it a continuous element throughout the site. An environmental and natural process of water purification is introduced, with sufficient capacity to cater for the densely populated site of over 1,000 inhabitants. The process involves three ponds with particular characteristics; depth, sunlight, and species.
Existing industrial structures in the north are partially reused, while new buildings in the south are incorporated to the site to act as a buffer with its surroundings. Water connects the systems by flowing through four main plazas, creating a walkable river corridor, offering further opportunities for research as well as providing meeting points for life and investigation.
The site integrates the three stages of R+D (research, development, display) into the daily lives of the residents by accommodating public uses within the research spaces.
