Letter from the Director
Dear Prospective Student,
I want to welcome you the IE University’s School of Architecture and Design.
Design is a way of thinking.
The world is changing rapidly. As designers, we constantly work with uncertainty. Design helps us deal with uncertainty and use it to our advantage.
As a profession, “designer” is constantly evolving. Historically, a person would study graphic design, industrial design, or interior design, since there were a finite number of crafts out there in the world. In the near future, you might be an artificial organ designer, a cybernetic director, or fusionist. Who knows? Now we’re starting to see that design and creativity are needed to confront an increasing number of more difficult tasks. Everyday life has become more complex and as such, new challenges need creative professionals capable of tackling them.
The most important choice a designer makes is to become a designer. That is the day you are a designer, even though one with little experience, which you will be accumulating over the years. Here with us at IE, we will make sure you obtain the necessary strong skills and essential fundamental knowledge to help you develop your career as a designer.
But as exciting as this sounds, the demands and compromise it requires from you is proportional to this excitement.
Think of these years as the launch pad of your career or as a training camp for your professional development. Together we will debate and work to solve the worlds’ problems, with new approaches and in innovative ways.
Think differently, ask why? As well as, why not?
On this horizon of constantly changing scenarios with disruptive technologies and dynamic new social patterns, the future is gearing up to be a golden age, filled with wonderfully-wild new possibilities and career opportunities for designers.
All the team at the IE School of Architecture and Design and I want to make sure that you have a great time and an enriching experience in this new project in which you are about to embark.
We are looking forward to seeing you.
