On tuesday 22nd of February Ibrahim Al-Marashi, Assistant Professor of Contemporary History and Freedom of Speech at IE University, will give a lecture titled “Can You Overthrow a Government? The Role of Youth and Facebook in the Egyptian Revolution”.
Description
This talk will discuss the role of social media in the debate about the revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia. The mainstream media coverage of Egypt and Tunisia has described the events as a spontaneous revolt. Rather than a spontaneous revolt, the events in Egypt are a culmination of a series of dynamics, including the rise of a more assertive youth population. This talk will also discuss the role that youth movements and student groups will play in the future of Egypt.
