IE expands its technology center in Madrid

IE will begin expanding its technology campus in September with the incorporation of a property located at Velázquez street,130, an 11-story building with a floor space of 7,800 square meters.

The expansion of the center is a reflection of the continued growth of IE and the consolidation of IE Business SchoolIE Law SchoolIE School of Human Sciences and TechnologyIE School of International Relations and IE School of Architecture and Design.

Recognized as one of the best educational institutions in the world, IE has more than 4,000 students from 131 countries this year and plans to launch eight new Masters programs next academic year.

The building, the former headquarters of Spanish flag carrier IBERIA, forms part of the complex known as Campos Velázquez. IE already occupies two annex buildings in the same complex with a capacity of 7,000 square meters each, which it uses for its International MBA and degree programs.

The new building has cutting edge technological resources, classrooms, multidisciplinary work areas and a plant dedicated to the development of bootcamps, technological immersion programs that drive training in digital transformation. Half of the building will be fully operational from September. The remaining 50% of the property, currently being refurbished, will be incorporated in the coming months.

Bootcamps are part of the immersive learning initiative at IE, developed to meet the demands of a fast changing world of work. The IE Bootcamps want to empower professionals and entrepreneurs with the digital skills to accelerate their future careers. This is the ultimate learning by doing experience. We will combine expert mentorship with a capstone project-based curriculum to help participants efficiently learn the skills they need to boost their careers and achieve their professional ambitions. This immersive learning experience, developed within the lifelong learning vision of IE Exponential Learning, will first be launched in conjunction with IE School of Human Sciences and Technology, as the Data Science Bootcamp starting this fall.

“Our mission at IE School of Human Sciences and Technology is to educate the next generation of professionals with the cutting-edge digital skills demanded in the new economy,” says Dean Lee Newman. “The School’s programs in Big Data, Cybersecurity, and Information Systems continue to expand and we will soon launch an additional wave of digital degrees. In addition, we are enhancing IE’s ‘digital DNA’ with mandatory courses in Data Insights and Technological Innovation across the Institution.”

Since 2007, IE has invested more than €30 million on projects to expand and refurbish its Madrid and Segovia centers. The current installations will double in size when a 160-meter high disruptive architectural project with 50,000 square meters of floor space in the north of Madrid is inaugurated to host IE University’s degree programs. The academic institution is also committed to the growth of its historic campus in Segovia, where the 13th century Santa Cruz la Real Convent is located. This headquarters is equipped with all the necessary resources to offer innovative education.

IE offers a technology-based learning ecosystem for leaders making the difference in the world through innovation, global vision, an entrepreneurial mindset and a unique approach to the Humanities. As part of its commitment to technology, in October 2016 IE launched WOW Room, a futuristic training space that combines IE’s teaching excellence with the state-of-the-art technologies that will drive classroom learning in the future. With this project, unique in Europe, IE is committed to innovation, breaking with the traditional vision of education. #IEWOWRoom revolutionizes the learning experience through artificial intelligence, real-time simulations, big data analysis, interactive robots, emotional recognition systems and presence of experts via holograms, among other resources.
