IE Law School and the Debating Society of the Complutense University organize the second edition of the Inter-University Debate Tournament

The Second Edition of the Inter-University Debate Tournament organized by IE Law School and the Debating Society of the Complutense University was held from February 23rd to 25th. This time, eleven Spanish universities discussed a highly topical issue: Can the euro crisis be solved without reforming existing European treaties? The opening ceremony was held at the Faculty of Law at the Complutense University with the presence of Dean Raúl Canosa.

José M. de Areilza, Dean of IE Law School and author of the theme of the tournament, stressed the importance of rhetorics and knowledge in professional life arguing: "This is more than a purely legal question - the subject of the tournament includes the various aspects and challenges of economic policy", said Areilza.

During three days of intense debates the teams argued their positions regarding the reform, for or against, and discussed with determination and passion. The rescue of Greece, the Eurobonds, the tax harmonization, the debt of countries and the France–Germany relations were among the most recurrent issues raised during the discussion.

The jury, composed of professors from the Complutense University and experts in public speaking as well as faculty and alumni lawyers of IE Law School, praised aspects such as the presentation of the arguments - the verbal and physical expression of ideas. After each debate, the jury shared with participants their impressions on the debate in its formal aspects and content.
