IE University brings together more than 2,000 graduates from 100 countries at the 'Global Alumni Weekend 2021 Virtual Edition'

The opening ceremony was broadcasted from IE Tower, IE University's new headquarters in the north of Madrid.

Last Saturday, over 2,000 IE University graduates from 100 countries attended the virtual IE Global Alumni Weekend 2021, the institution's premier annual alumni gathering. This is the first time IE Alumni has organized a completely online edition of this event. The graduates, who joined the meeting from the five continents, analyzed the main challenges facing companies and educational institutions after the global health crisis and its impact on the international socio-economic situation. In addition, new technological trends and their relationship with post-pandemic social innovation were also discussed.

The opening ceremony was broadcasted from IE Tower, IE University's new headquarters in the north of Madrid, which will be inaugurated this fall. At the event, Diego del Alcázar Benjumea, Executive Vice President of IE University, Santiago Iñiguez de Onzoño, Executive President of IE University and Erik Schlie, Vice President of Global Alumni and Talent & Careers at IE University, shared the institution's main strategic objectives, the challenges ahead for the next academic year and the key initiatives that IE University will be promoting with its international alumni community, which is present in 165 countries.

The event included a new session entitled ‘Dean's Pick’, which was attended by the deans of the five schools that make up IE University: IE Business School, IE Law School, IE School of Global & Public Affairs, IE School of Human Sciences & Technology and IE School of Architecture and Design, as well as experts from the institution’s faculty.

During the Global Alumni Weekend, alumni from different programs and graduating years met with their peers and former professors and participated in engagement activities.

“This year, we are holding the Global Alumni Weekend online for the first time. Technology is proving essential to give continuity to this annual tradition and provide a virtual space where we can meet to exchange knowledge, experiences, and foster networking among our faculty members, alumni and students from around the world.”
