The digital immersive event was held from the Aula Magna of the IE University campus in Segovia.

IE University has celebrated the graduation of 600 students from the IE Business School and IE Law School master programs, and hailing from more than 70 countries, with a lecture by astronaut Cady Coleman. A NASA scientist who has participated in two space missions during her career, Coleman has given the master class at IE University's graduation ceremony, projected from the Aula Magna of the Segovia campus. “This year you have learned more than you ever could have imagined,” astronaut Coleman has reminded the IE University student. The ceremony was also attended by undergraduate and graduate students from 140 countries, as well as professors and staff members.

“I am honored to be part of the IE University family today and congratulate the graduates of IE Business School and IE Law School. You have made so many steps to get to where you are today. It’s the same for astronauts: suddenly there we are sitting on top of the rocket ready to launch into space. And I hope that you feel that way as well. I think there are lots of parallels between our worlds,” Dr. Coleman told her virtual audience around the world.

Coleman, a veteran of two Space Shuttle missions and a six-month expedition aboard the International Space Station (ISS), added: “This year has been very hard for all of us. You have learnt more than you ever expected.”

“Yet I think that this pandemic has brought out innovation and humanity and a response to a mission that is clear to all of us: to be safe for our families and communities and to find global solutions together to create a better future. And I know that every single one of you can make a difference.”

Santiago Iñiguez de Onzoño, President of IE University, thanked the students for their “commitment, sense of responsibility, and understanding of the challenging circumstances we have faced together. I hope that for all students, this time has been an opportunity to learn and further enhance your profile as global citizens. IE University is one of the most innovative education institutions worldwide. The current pandemic has been a time to explore new formats and launch what we call liquid learning,” added Dr. Iñiguez de Onzoño.

This year, IE University launched its strategic commitment to liquid learning, a unique training model that transforms the educational experience. IE University’s innovatively designed hybrid programs integrate classes on campus with students connected online to provide the same immersive experience, along with asynchronous sessions to help with individual work.

Other activities at this year’s graduation ceremony include a session on mindfulness with Dr. Mario Alonso Puig, President of the IE University Center for Health, Well-being and Happiness. Throughout the afternoon, students will also be able to solve the mysteries hidden in a virtual escape room, cook their graduation dinner in a digital event with leading Spanish chef and entrepreneur Cristina Oria, learn how to make a cocktail with Diego Cabrera, and enjoy an exclusive live music session with internationally reknown DJ Carl Cox.
