Final Project for the Bachelor in Design, Class of 2022.
Are you aware your health and fitness data is currently being collected and used without your consent. HDMP – Health Data Market Place – is a speculative proposal for the restructuring of data collection within the health innovation sector. It seeks to trigger a movement for 1) transparent and consensual data trading, 2) tech companies giving users benefits in return for their data.
The project started as an exploration into data generation within the healthcare sector. During the research phase, multiple cases were uncovered for various privacy violations especially in regards to the major company Google. In all these cases it is important to highlight that the data being traded is vulnerable information like Lab results, diagnosis, hospitalisation records, medication and radiological scans. All without the consent of doctors or patients. Why should institutions hold so much power and control over users’ health and fitness data. Users have a great lack of control on their data. Unaware of what data is being collected? How the data is being used or even where the data is going?
The aim of the project is to speculate over the future of a restructured data sharing ecosystem, which is transparent and consists of a fair consensual trade. So that we can focus on the tremendous good that can come from sharing information with the right people in the right ways.
