Is it possible to design instrumental sporting projects for communities in conflict that allow for local development? Western media has boldly acclaimed the 21st century as the century of peace. With entities such as the UN gaining importance, optimism rose as the notion of global collaboration grew. However, taking a broader view of the current landscape worldwide we find that roughly a fourth of the global population; 2 billion people live in situations of conflict.
“The Underdogs” serves as investigative work to identify the long-term consequences that conflicts have on the communities as well as sports’ potential implementation for change and development. To further understand the limitations of sports projects and how to deviate from imposing foreign practices.
Sports Alliance Against Conflict, or “SAAC” is a Non-Profit organization gathering trainers worldwide to develop sporting projects in selected communities, with the purpose of improving the social structures by creating nets of support for youth development. The program would ensure that, through collaborative efforts, the sports implemented should not only adhere to but strengthen the community’s existing values.
