Every communications student must learn to tell a story. This course builds on the Photography and Video Production course to train students to develop their visual storytelling skills. The course is split into two parts: the first focuses on writing engaging stories, while the second focuses on translating these stories into images. Students will learn to develop characters and branded stories before bringing these stories to life with cinematography, production design, music, fashion, and more.
VIRAL VIDEO ON ONESELF
One of our individual assignments involved creating a three-minute viral video of ourselves, where we employed all the pre-production, production and post-production skills we had learned during the course. My viral video was entitled Workaholic, and centered on my hard-working nature in a humorously exaggerated manner. I gave the audience a taster of “a day in the life of a workaholic,” showcasing my busy daily routine—without ever actually stopping to work. I also challenged myself by adding character animation to the video, using Adobe Character Animator to create an animated avatar of myself. The video was hugely enjoyable to make; while extremely challenging, all the planning, creativity and patience made the final product extremely memorable.
