THE STUDY PLAN FOR THE BACHELOR IN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES FOR SUSTAINABILITY

The study plan for the Bachelor in Environmental Sciences for Sustainability at IE University has been designed by our expert faculty and blends an in-depth knowledge of the basic and environmental sciences with technology, economy and law. This allows a multidimensional understanding of how the environment impacts our societies and how societies impact the environment, demonstrating that interdependence is straightforward.

Using a hands-on approach and project-based learning, the program provides students with a solid scientific base, an understanding of the current socio-political and regulatory environment and a command of the relevant digital tools and technologies, empowering them to develop solutions to practical cases and apply their knowledge to specific environmental situations.

  • First year - Bachelor in Environmental Sciences and Sustainability | IE University

    FIRST YEAR - CORE BASIC SCIENCES. TECHNOLOGY FOUNDATIONS. RESEARCH METHOD.

    The first year builds the foundation for your Bachelor in Environmental Sciences for Sustainability journey. You’ll get a thorough grounding in biology, as well as mathematics and physics as they apply to environmental science. You will have one project per semester and a field trip for hands-on experience. We will study research methods to train writing and communication skills from the beginning and many laboratory sessions to put your knowledge and environmental measuring techniques into practice.

  • Second year - Bachelor in Environmental Sciences and Sustainability | IE University

    SECOND YEAR - APPLIED SCIENCES. SYSTEMIC THINKING. ENTREPRENEURSHIP.

    In the second year, you’ll continue the study of Plants, Animals and Microorganisms, Ecology Engineering and Contamination. We’ll take a closer look at Technologies for Spatial Measurements, fundamentals of statistics and probability, and you’ll be introduced to a transversal module in entrepreneurship as well as a project and field trip focused on Ecosystem restoration and pollution evaluation.

  • Third year - Bachelor in Environmental Sciences and Sustainability | IE University

    THIRD YEAR – SUSTAINABILITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES. ECONOMY AND LAW.

    In the third year, you will look at some of the great challenges of our time: climate, water and ecosystem dynamics. As well you will be introduced to the economics, regulation and sociology of environmental science. You’ll also be introduced to Biotechnology. The second semester will include a field trip focused on Environmental Toxicology.

    FOURTH YEAR – BIG DATA. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT & RISK ASSESSMENT. CAPSTONE PROJECT. CAREER SPECIALIZATION

    Your final year is dedicated to electives, where you can take all that you’ve learned over the past three years and deepen your knowledge even further while pursuing topics and a specialization that you are passionate about. In the first semester, you will learn about the virtues of Big Data and AI as valuable tools for environmental impact assessment. Before completing your degree, you’ll embark on the Capstone Project, giving you hands-on experience in tackling real-world issues.
