outside their home countries
Students receive academic guidance from tutors and advisors who provide direction and help the different subjects mesh together. You will be able to build a personalized academic program that matches your professional aspirations.
IEU Labs are IE University’s alternative to traditional internships. Designed for first- and second-year students seeking high-level internship placements, IEU Labs provide a hands-on, internship-like, on-campus experience where you will work on projects for leading companies and institutions in a variety of sectors.LEARN MORE ABOUT IEU LABS
In the Policy Lab, students develop professional projects for private companies, public organizations, and nonprofits. They have analyzed Open Government and E-Government policies in Spain, the United States, the UK, China, Brazil, and the European Union. They can work on a documentary for the OCDE with a new Gender Index, or conduct an analysis with the United Nations to evaluate areas of child protection and nutrition in a low-income country.
Students analyze financial markets to optimize investment strategies. For instance, they identify the most promising social currencies for Triodos Bank as an ethical financing opportunity. They explore the topic of corporate social responsibility for Caixa Bank, or they provide wealth-management advice (including technical details) regarding investments in financial instruments in order to construct—and justify—an international portfolio at Deutsche Bank.
Students dive into data to make better economic decisions. They evaluate indicators connected to a countries’ wealth—such as GDP—to help businesses predict short-term economic growth, or they help small, underprivileged villages in Segovia finance public goods by analyzing the bureaucratic information needed for town councils to request public assistance.
FINAL DEGREE PROJECT AND IMPACT CAPSTONES
The Final Degree Project is the culmination of four years of learning. The topics are chosen with step-by-step guidance from an advisor. As students draw upon the knowledge gained from specific academic areas, internships, or IEU Labs projects, they take advantage of the chance to show off the extent of their theoretical and practical skills. As an alternative, students can perform an Impact Capstone, which is a group-based, consultancy-oriented final project developed in collaboration with outside partner organizations (the UN, the government, community organizations or big corporations). Each capstone is unique. It is a career-building exercise representing the culmination of the students’ studies, and partner institutions benefit from impactful research and policy recommendations.
As students prepare to enter the working world, real-world professional experience is fundamental. The Dual Degree in Economics + International Relations offers internship opportunities with top international organizations. Gain experience in your desired field, experience new cultures and set yourself up for success.
