Biology in practice: demystifying the supposed aggressiveness of the Iberian wolf
On November 17th, a group of students from IE School of Biology had the opportunity to spend an enjoyable and exclusive field day with Carlos Sanz. This photographer, documentary filmmaker and renowned biologist offered an intensive explanatory course about the biology of the Iberian wolf (Canis lupus signatus).
Students were able to interact directly with the wolves which are raised for educational and sensitize programs in a specially conditioned farm. Throughout the day, this expert explained different issues about the natural history, behaviour and conservation of this iconic species.
Carlos Sanz is the author of the exhibition "My Friend Wolf: The Legend and Reality of the Iberian Wolf”, which was exposed in IE University during the first two weeks of October 2009. This exhibition was awarded the WWF Panda Prize on Environmental Communication as Best Environmental Awareness Campaign in 2008.
The contribution of this naturalist to environmental awareness has been extremely prolific, highlighting his involvement in some of the most prestigious television series about nature filmed in Spain and Latin America, such as " El Hombre y la Tierra" (directed by Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente), "Pacto con Lobos", "Naturaleza Ibérica", "La Marisma y el Llano", "De Polo a Polo" and among others "La España Salvaje”.
